The Survivor - searching weeks for a lonely tree composition. After some planning, jumping a fence, and crawling waist-deep in snow for about 100m while the sun was setting rapidly, I was finally able to match my vision with this composition.

This photo was featured in a calendar “The Beauty of Winter” by The Nature Conservancy

I sold this photo (framed) to my first customer, Fran Burman, after she saw it in the calendar.

My name is Marius van Dyk, born and raised in South Africa.

My journey started around 2014, whilst the youngest of my two beautiful daughters was doing photography at school.

In order to keep her motivated, I decided to get a camera as well.

My goal for her was to teach me what she learned about photography.

Whilst she was doing great, my first few photos were shot to pieces by her, telling me it’s just pedestrian and that there is no story and emotion in it.

As time progressed I engaged in the fundamentals, merging it with my passion for product design and engineering where the form, fit, function, and feel parameters are essential. I love long exposure shots, all sorts of “scapes”, Sunrises, Sunsets, Astro, Cities, and skylines during day/night, architecture/structures with lots of detail, street, fine art, and black/white photography.

Her critique became more and more constructive and I knew she was on a good path. My “Job was done” and I can pack my camera away...

In 2015 i moved to Dallas, TX, USA, and traveled back and forth to/from Montreal, Canada for work and personal reasons.

But then in 2017 something happened… I got some flattering feedback from friends on social media after showcasing some of my images.

The Photo-bug bit me, and there is no cure.

I trust you will enjoy the journey with me
